Smoking and Other Habits: The Mechanics Without the Moralizing

Smoking and similar habits are usually discussed in the language of guilt: weak, spineless, your own fault. That language helps no one: it adds shame, and shame most often strengthens the habit. It's more useful to look at the mechanics: how the habit became part of your day, what it gives you, and what can be changed. From here on — no moralizing, but no illusions either.
