Burnout and overload
Why a Vacation Doesn't Cure Burnout

You wait for vacation like it's medicine: two weeks by the sea, and things will get easier. But the first week passes, then the second, you come back — and three days later you feel exactly the same as before you left. This doesn't mean rest isn't necessary. It means vacation treats fatigue, while burnout is built differently.
Burnout isn't an overflowing cup you just need to pour some out of. It rests on several supports: overload, loss of meaning, lack of control, and blurred boundaries. Vacation removes only the first — and even that, only temporarily.
So the question isn't whether to take a vacation — you absolutely should. The question is what to expect from it and what to do so it doesn't turn into two weeks of anxiety and one week of catching up.
