Self-esteem
Self-esteem and social media: why Instagram makes you feel worse

You look at someone else's polished world and think there's something wrong with your own reality.
Social media isn't a window into life — it's a showroom. People put their best on display: the filtered, the retouched, the well-planned version. But they don't post about the arguments, the tears, the debt, or the loneliness. Instead: a sunset, a smile, a win. And you scroll through, looking at that display, thinking: "So this is what life should look like. Mine isn't like that, which means I'm falling short."
But it's a trap. Because the display isn't what the shop actually sells. A picture isn't a real life. You're comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else's sales pitch — and you lose every time, because the comparison itself isn't fair.
