Childhood trauma
The Inner Child. What It Is and Why to Work on It

Inside you, there lives a little boy or girl who is still hurting. And this child runs your life while you remain unaware.
The inner child is a metaphor. But an accurate one. It is the part of you still living in childhood. Remembering every slight, fear, and wound. Reacting to the world not as an adult, but as a child. And still waiting to be noticed, to be held, to be told: you are good. I am with you. You are safe.
You don't see this child. You think all your reactions are adult decisions. But there you go, panicking again when someone raises their voice. Crying again when criticized. Running from closeness again. Struggling to say "no" again. That is not the adult. That is the inner child still playing by childhood rules.
